Chicago |
I started my trip to India flying west, in stead of east, to Chicago, where I stopped for just a few hours, before catching a flight to Paris, later in the day.
It was very cold in Chicago, and I had only light clothes. No problem, in a few days I will compensate the Chicago cold with the hot weather of southern India. |

Paris |
I arrived in Paris the next day, in the morning. I made sure to came out of the terminal, for the great opportunity to practice the three phrases I know in French. |

Mumbai |
After another 10 hours from Paris, I arrived in Mumbai at around two in the morning. One would feel totelly lost, except that the good hotels are sending drivers to pick up the newly arrived guests |

At the hotel |
The hotel was in a very nice campus, which also contained other western quality buildings that housed westerners working temporarily in Mumbai. |

Behind the hotel was a garden and this nice building. The hotel also had a modern gym, two nice restaurants and multiple large conference rooms. |

Next day I came out of the hotel for some exploration of the city. The streets are always filled with this three-wheeled taxis which can take you everywhere for a fraction of a dollar. |

Here is a Pizza Hut. It's conforting to see American symbols in a far-away land. |

The poor of India |
Sooner or later any traveller comes to see places like this on the side of the road. Such places are in stark contrast to some of the luxurious hotels and buildings.
The most amazing thing is that the people living in poverty seem to be quite happy, as if they live in a perfect world, the only world there is for them. |

Street in Pune |
I went to Pune, a city around six hours away from Mumbai. With modern freeways the trip would take no more then two hours, but in India such trips are real challenges.
Here is a picture of the heavy traffic in Pune. |

At the Infosys camp in Bangalore |
Bangalore is one of the most amazing modern cities in India. We met a number of partners, Including Infosys.
Infosys has a very large campus, which would rival any modern American company. Take a look at this picture. It may very well be in Orlando, Florida.
Infosys has over 40,000 people working in outsourcing for western companies. |
